FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DRAMA (and MELODRAMA) MAKE APPEARANCE AT TELUS WORLD SKI AND SNOWBOARD FESTIVAL

Chairlift Revue theatre event begins production

WHISTLER, BC , March 26 2007 –

In the quest for the ultimate Whistler icon, one humble player is often overlooked.

The chairlift.

Doing double duty as teleporter, couch, and decompression chamber, the chairlift is the thing our lives (or at least our laps) revolve around.

And in a new twist for the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival, the humble chairlift takes on a new role : theatre set.

NEW to TWSSF12, the Chairlift Revue marks the revival of a Whistler live-theatre original, in the born-again repertory Rainbow Theatre on Monday April 16.

Brought to TWSSF by Whistler trickster G.D. Maxwell, the Chairlift Revue promises an evening of original live theatre centred around conversations on a chairlift.

Respite to the tired, godsend to the lazy and a soapbox to the pathologically talkative, a ride up the mountain in silence is a ride wasted. Then again, in the wrong company, it could be the longest twelve minutes of your life.

“Chairlifts are a bit like Airplane Seat Lottery,” says Maxwell.  “You never know what kind of weirdo you’re going to end up next to, what they’re going to do or say and how you’re going to react.  There’s no restroom to escape to, no steward to call for help but at least the ride ends quicker than a cross-country hop.”

Local writers Cindy Filipenko, Lisa Richardson and Maxwell have joined forces with near-local writers Jules Older and Paul Malm to create memorable, if not always loveable, characters for whom the chairlift is far more than just an uphill transportation mechanism.

Boasting Whistler theater maven Michele Bush as Executive Producer, with Maxwell and Short Skirt Theater Company stalwart Chris Quinlan as her slavish co-proudcers, the Chairlift promises to be an irreverent showcase of moments from the chairlift.  Rehearsals are currently underway on chairlifts near you.

Tickets are $10 and can be pre-purchased online at www.whistler2007.com/2007/estore < http://www.whistler2007.com/2007/estore > . Seating is limited, so book soon.
