FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2007 TELUS WORLD SKI & SNOWBOARD FESTIVAL FREE CONCERT SERIES SET TO KEEP SLEEP AT BAY

Kokanee Freeride Concert Series Details Released

Whistler, BC, 3 April 2007 - With over 50 free concerts, it’s North America’s largest free outdoor concert series.

Anchoring the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival from April 13-22, live music reverberates throughout Whistler Village and up onto the slopes, turning the mountains into the ultimate ampitheatre. And it doesn’t end there.

After all, the day truly begins with après, and the Kokanee Freeride Series ensures Whistler’s off hill experience during the Festival picks up as much speed as the on-mountain adventuring.

Presenting a yin-yang balance of established and emerging bands and DJs at Whistler’s favourite watering holes, the Kokanee Freeride Series is set to introduce Festival goers to the fine art of après.

And the artists are:

TOKYO POLICE CLUB | SUNDAY APRIL 15TH | GLC

Discordant noise and sublime melodies – who can resist? The Tokyo Police club demo wound up in the hands of Paper Bag Records after a sweaty Pop Montreal show. We played it once, twice, three times and beyond that we lost count – then we did that every day and eventually just made time in our schedules to kick back and enjoy “The Nature of the Experiment”, the bands clear party tune, on a daily basis for the rest of our lives.
DJ JESSE JAMES | MONDAY APRIL 16TH | MAXX FISH

Funky, Banging Beats are what best describe Jesse's unique mix behind the decks. You can't miss the energetic flare that comes along with him to every event behind the decks. ass shaking electro-house music.

BUCK 65 | TUESDAY APRIL 17TH | GARFINKELS

I grew up in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by music. All kinds.  I seen a lot of things.  By the time I started making records, I had a story to tell but I didn't know how to tell it.  I had an interesting upbringing, but it didn't prevent me from being a jackass as a young man. Pity.  My first bunch of records are crap and that's all there is to it. Boring hip hop...My first real attempts at honesty came along while making an album called Vertex. Songs like 'The Centaur' and 'BSc.' Showed signs of life, but my head was still up my ass and the music was horrible.  You can't even really call it music.  Now my heart was beating and with my next album, Man Overboard, I started to grow some guts for once. Songs like 'Ice', 'Secret Splendor' and 'Pants on Fire' had some humanity at last. Empathy. Plus I finally had the sense to take on some help with the music. It was on this album that I started to work with my friends (and current band members) Graeme Campbell and Charles Austin.

ANDY CALDWELL | TUESDAY APRIL 17TH | TOMMY AFRICA'S

San Francisco born and L.A. based DJ/Producer/Songwriter, Andy Caldwell (Om Records/Naked Music), an established name in North America within the music industry through his electronic soul band 'Soulstice' plus releases and remixes for labels; (Om Records), (Naked Music) and (Yoshitoshi). Caldwell's European recognition stems from his phenomenal remix of Yoshimoto's "Du What U Du" which topped the European Dance charts and pushed his name to the forefront. Collaborating with DJ/producers such as co-writing/producing Kaskade's hit single Everything (Billboard #1 Dance Club Play and Top 10 Dance Commercial Radio Charts) Caldwell has also done several remixes for the Yoshitoshi label, including the Grammy nominated track "Safe from Harm" by Narcotic Thrust. Further expanding his reach, Caldwell's signature production style is also recognized in the film and television industries. He has composed music for films such as Forces of Nature and Skulls, as well as popular television series Six Feet Under, Boston Public, and Chromium Blue.

BLISS N ESO | WEDNESDAY APRIL 18TH | MERLINS

The trio – a diverse bunch comprising of American born MC ‘Bliss’, Australian born MC ‘Eso’, and DJ ‘Izm’ of Moroccan heritage – has certainly come a long way since forming in the late 1990s as three high-school students busting rhymes at the local bus stop. In 2000, they burst onto a growing hip-hop scene with the release of their debut EP, aptly titled, The Arrival. With its thumping beats and raw rhymes, the EP was quickly embraced by the Australian hip-hop community, and Bliss n Eso was billed as an outfit to look out for in the future.

ANIMAL NATION | WEDNESDAY APRIL 18TH | MERLINS

Eight months, seventeen tracks, three producers, two emcees, multiple guests, and countless nights of insomnia riddled 4am jam sessions later, Animal Nation is proud to present "Selfless Mind Indulgence". The group's highly anticipated debut album lays it on thick with lyrical content
covering everything from life, love, loss, lies, hopeism, sex, drugs, and rock and roll. ".and some other s%#t too." Dabbling in everything from classical to rock to the "Sound of Music" and right back to hip hop without skipping a beat, "Selfless" will have you hitting the repeat button over and over again... even though you would, like, only need to hit it once. and stuff.

TOOTS & THE MAYTALS | FRIDAY APRIL 20TH

2005 Grammy winners for Reggae Album of the Year Toots is one of the true architects of reggae - so much so that "Do the Reggay," a 1968 single by Toots and his group, the Maytals, is credited with giving the genre its name.
Toots Hibbert is one of the great voices of Jamaica; a legend whose career spans every development in Jamaican music, from ska through rock-steady to reggae. Toots and the Maytals have helped to chart the course of Jamaican music with unrivaled delivery and dynamism, setting new standards of excellence, and becoming the most enduring of all Jamaica's groups.

TROUBLE ANDREW | SUNDAY APRIL 22ND | BUFFALO BILLS

Born and raised on the East Coast of Canada in Windsor, Nova Scotia, lil' Trey, age 9, dressed in his mother's over sized hiking boots, wrapped in socks and taped into the bindings of an old snowboard three times his size. He was determined to conquer the slight and icy mountain at Martock, the local ski resort where his mom worked. As fate would have it, Trevor's determination paid off. He is now one of the top-ranking professional snowboarders worldwide, sponsored by industry heavyweights Burton Snowboards, Analog Clothing, Gravis Footwear, and Oakley Optics. He holds numerous national titles and World Cup victories and has had feature parts in many of the industry's biggest magazines and video productions. He competed in the 1998 and 2002 Olympics. After a fall in his final run, he landed in 8th place as the highest ranking Canadian in the half pipe. In 2004 Trevor suffered a knee injury forcing him to sit out much of the season. By the time the 2005 snowboarding season rolled around, Trevor was not only ready to ride, he had recorded half of what would become his debut, under the name, "Trouble Andrew"
